About

In the fall of 2010, Kate’s Club partnered with LEAD Atlanta to plan and implement a Grief Awareness Day. The goal of Grief Awareness Day is to bring this too frequently hidden issue to the forefront of public attention. In the metro Atlanta alone there are over 40,000 children who have lost a sibling or parent. Most importantly, the goal is to highlight resources that families and communities can turn to for support. The vision is a day in which schools, youth-serving organizations, health care facilities, faith communities, families, media outlets, government institutions, and the community-at-large pause to recognize the importance of recognizing and appropriately dealing with grief.

This blog was born as part of the planning effort for Grief Awareness Day, and communicates important information in dealing with grief far beyond the Atlanta community. The blog will share a range of information from lists of organizations to real stories of people who honor the memories of their loved ones in their every day lives.

Kate’s Club is a nonprofit organization that empowers children and teens facing life after the death of a parent or sibling. By creating friendships with kids and young adults that share the experience, Kate’s Club guides children through their grief journey in a comfortable, safe, and uplifting setting. At Kate’s Club every child that enters the clubhouse is welcomed by young people who are dealing with a similar loss. The approach is based on fun, community, safety and long-term support, and our programs continue to be provided at no cost to the family.
